DAIRY BEEF & HEIFER STARTER PROGRAM
By Russ Schnepper, D. V. M.
DAY ONE: Buy a calf that is less than a week of age and get it from its original home to its new home the same
day. Calves hate change and do not handle it well, so do not move the calf to two or three different locations. Put
the calf where it is going to stay for at least the first month. House it in an individual hutch, stall or pen and be all
in and all out in your particular facility. We used to give modified live virus vaccines on day one into the facility,
to get interferon production (Mother Nature's own medicine against viruses and bacteria). The interferon only
persisted for approximately three days, but helped the calf thru the rough first days.
1. Inject 1 ml Immunoboost, it stimulates the calf to start producing interferon within a couple hours and the
levels produced are much greater than that produced by modified live virus vaccines. Immunoboost continues to
work for seven days and if a longer effect is needed, repeat the Immunoboost.
1A. Optional - if not using Immunoboost Day One - give TSV-2 intranasally.
2. Inject 1st 1 ml dose of Immvac or Endovac bovi (against Salmonella, E. coli, Pasteurella & other Gram negative endotoxins.
3. Inject 3 ml Calf Selenium, BoSe, or 5 ml Calf Fortifier (Selenium, Vit E, A, D, B, Iron)
4. CRYPTO (PREVENTATIVE) - Deccox M, 6% Deccox, or Crypto SD feed in each individual bottle or bucket for the first 20 feedings.
5. Feed Uniprim - 1 teaspoonful/calf once a day for three days, skip three days and feed for another three days.
5A. Optional - instead of feeding Uniprim - feed Quantum Leap Probiotics
5B. Optional - feed 1 ounce Gammulin twice a day for ten days and then ½ ounce twice daily for seven days,
followed by 1/4 ounce for a day & 1/8 ounce for another day.
DAY EIGHT: 1. Inject 1st dose of Bovishield-4 or Titanium-5.
2. Inject 2nd 1 ml dose of Immvac or Endovac bovi.
3. Optional - Inject 2nd 1ml dose of Immunoboost (Especially if raising heifers).

OF AGE, as his adrenal gland is not functioning.
